Alan O`Neill and Noel Daly honoured

May 9, 2008 [Noel Guiden] Clonliffe Harriers last night paid tribute to the athletes who have brought glory to the club over the Winter months at a special presentation night. In addition to the club`s athletes two special individuals were honoured for the invaluable contribution they have made to our club : Alan O`Neill and Noel Daly. Both are of course former Clonliffe athletes, however, it was for thier off the field activities they were honoured. Alan for his coaching of our young athletes in St. Aidans CBS, who this year after a 23 year break captured the All Ireland Senior Schools Cross country. Alan coaches all these guys after school, in addition Alan coaches at schools level at present a couple of dozen of our future stars from U/14 onwards. Noel was honoured for his equally valuable work in looking after the clubs finances, at out 2007 AGM Noel stepped down from the position of club Treasurer after 10 years service, an extraordinary achievement, Noel is still activally involved in the administation of the club as a Committee member and also on the LOC of the Morton Memorial Meet.

Awards made to our athletes included David Donegan for his National Indoor Pole Vault title,and to Jeremy Lyons for recently breaking the long standing club 400m h record.

Team awards were made to the National Juvenile U/18 Cross Country winning squad of Dave Fitzmaurice, Larry Brady, Eoin McDonnell, Mark McDonald, Colm Murray, Tony Kavanagh,Mickey McAnallan and Jordan Logue.

Our womens National Novice Cross country winning team of Becky Woods, Tara Whyte, Ailish McDermott and Eleanor Alexandra were then honoured. Followed by the mens National Road Relay record breaking team of Aidan Bailey, Conor Healy, Colm Rooney and James Nolan.

Finally the 5 in a row National senior men`s Cross Country team: Alistair Cragg, Chris Carris, Sergiu Turea, Brian McMahon, Colm Rooney, Gary O`Hanlon, Cian McLoughlin, Palo Dogilo and Aidan Bailey.

Well done to all and a special thanks to Club President Paddy Marley, Captains Joe Cooper, Bronagh NiBhriain and Gladys Cooper and to Treasurer Noreen Keane for their efforts in organising the night.
