Clonliffe athletes medal at National juveniles

Jul 14, 2009 [N. Guiden ] Day one and two of the National Juvenile Track and Field Championships took place at Tullamore Harriers Stadium, Tullamore, Co. Offaly over the weekend. There was a small number of Clonliffe athletes taking part in the championships with silver medals being won by Pat O’Connor in the U/17 100 metres in 11.21, silver also won by Shauna Furman in the U/19 100 mH in a time of 15.68 and in keeping up the marvellous contribution the field eventors are making of late Manul Calvo won silver in the boys U/16 Hammer with a throw of 46.37. Jamie Rossiter continued his ongoing battle with DSD’s Emmett Jennings and in a great race on Saturday over 2000m steeple chase Jamie finished 3rd taking bronze in a time of 6.20.01 with Emmett finishing 1 second in front of him. Jamie placed 5th in the 3000m the following day (9.09.98). Ian Guiden ran a 3000m PB of 9.54.34 in taking 5th place in the U/16 Boys event. Sarah Finnegan was also 5th in the U/19 800m in a time of 2.32.41. Graham Mahon still working his way back to full fitness was 9th in the U/19 800 in a time of 2.08.19. Rachel Murray was also an 800m action in the girls U/14 finishing 13th in 2.35.03. Stuart Roche was 6th in the U/17 100m in a time of 11.67, Safari Aketch was 5th in the Boys U/16 Hammer with a best of 37.98 and Mark Maloney was 10th in the U/16 High Jump with 1.45 and 8th in the long jump with 5.07. As always well done to our juvenile athletes and the best of luck to the athletes taking part in the continuation of the Championships this coming weekend.
