Saturday round up: Clonliffe athletes win on Roads

There was success for Clonliffe athletes on the road today over the half and full marathon distances. In Waterford Sergiu Ciobanu put last Sunday`s disappointing performance in the National Cross Country firmly behind him with both a win and fast time in the Waterford AC Half Marathon, 65.51. Declan Power was 8th overall and 1st O/45 in 73.15. Also in the winner`s enclosure was Maura Matthews 1st O/40 and 8th woman overall in a time of 1:29.54.

Gary O`Hanlon also raced today, his first outing since the Dublin Marathon, as he made a winning return taking the Clonakilty Waterfront Marathon in 2:42.15.

In the Phoenix Park the Donore Jingle Bells 5k attracted a huge entry. First Clonliffe home was Tom Sherlock 31st in 16.20. Also running was Emma Cooper (19.12).

In the UK Liam Roarty was 42nd in the Birmingham Cross Country League and 5th scorer for Cheltenham at Sandwell Valley Country Park, Tipton.
