Round 2 of the National League took place in a sun drenched Morton Stadium on Sunday with both the Men and Women’s squads in action in the premier division.
The ladies team had a most successful day and despite not fielding a full team in certain events were successful in negotiating safe passage through to the August final in Tullamore. The ladies success was built on five fine wins which came courtesy of a sprints double by Leah Moore in the 100 and 200. A fine 1500 win by Becky Woods, a win in the javelin by Denise Byrne and in the triple jump by Aursa Jerumbauskyle. There were also big second place points contributed by Eleanor Alexander in the 800, Louise Reilly in the 3000, Snezana Bechtina in the pole vault and good points gathered in by Caoimhe Morris in the hammer and discus.
At the end of a long day the women had scored a total of 102 points which puts them safely through to the league final.
The Men’s team also successfully negotiated safe passage into the league final although on this occasion there were only there maximum points scoring performances. Pride of place goes to Andrew Heney who set a new PB of 2.05 in the high jump. Simon Galligan also performed very well winning the hammer, Stuart Roche won the 100 and Jayme Rossiter scored maximum points in the 3000 SC. Israel Ibanu ran a new PB in the 200. The men’s teams total was 102 points – more than enough for safe passage to the league final.
