Clonliffe Quartet safely through West Leinster Schools

At a cold and windswept Phoenix Park today the first of the Leinster regional qualifiers took place, the West Leinsters. At stake were berths in the Leinster Schools Cross Country which will be hosted by Clonliffe Harriers in Santry Demesne on Wednesday February 12th.

The four Clonliffe athletes running for their schools all safely negotiated safe passage through to the Aviva Leinsters in a little less than three weeks time.

In the minor boys race Ben Guiden ran the best race of his fledgling athletics career in the black and white of Belvedere running a very positive race he got off to a flying start from what was the biggest field of the day got himself safely into the top ten and then worked his way through the field to finish in an excellent 6th place as he led the Belvedere boys to a 3rd place team finish.

Also safely through in the minor girls race was Lauren Carr who finished 14th for Coolmine in the minor girls race.

Another excellent performance from one of Clonliffe’s Belvedere boys from Kevin Loftus. Again Kevin got out of the blocks quickly and ran a particularly fine second lap also to take a 6th place finish. Finally Ryan Cleary, who of course is an international race walker, once again donned the cross country spikes to compete for his school finishing in a fine 11th place for Belvedere in the senior boys race. The Belvedere senior team winning the event.
