Clonliffe Schools: Less than a week to closing date

The annual Brother at your side Clonliffe Schools cross country invitational takes place in Santry Demesne at the rear of the Morton Stadium on Wednesday the 10th of October. Invitations have issued to schools who have previously supported the event and also to schools who have sought invitations. At this stage entries are coming in rapidly for what is the biggest participation event that Clonliffe Harriers currently host with up to 1,000 school`s athletes expected on the big day. Entry closes on Wednesday the 3rd of October, now only six days away. There will be no entries accepted after this date. It is most important to note that no entries whatsoever will be accepted on the day, therefore, unless your school has pre-entered unfortunately you will have a wasted journey to Santry on the 10th of October.

The Brother at your side Clonliffe Schools X.C. is generously supported by Brother for this fourth successive year, thanks to Brother all participants in the event will receive a unique souvenir t-shirt. The event gets underway at 12.30 with the primary schools girls race which will then be followed by the boys primary schools race, both races will be held over 1000 metres. The secondary school programme gets underway at 1 p.m. with the minor girls who will also run 1000 metres followed by the minor boys (1500m), then the junior girls (2000m), junior boys (2500m), inter girls (2500m), inter boys (3000m), senior girls (2500m) and then the senior boys will have the honour of closing proceedings as they race over 5000m.

Any school who has received an invitation and wishes to take up the invitation must confirm their participation by email to clonliffeschoolsxc@gmail.com.

From the club’s perspective an event of this size requires considerable planning, organisation and assistance on the day itself. To date some 25 Clonliffe Harriers have made themselves available which is very much appreciated, however, we could always do with many more helpers on the day, it is particularly important that we have female officials and anyone who has availability is requested to contact the race director Noel Guiden by email to noel.guiden@behans.ie.
