Cragg 3rd in Boston Indoor 2 Mile Championship

Alistair Cragg took to the indoor circuit at the Reggie Lewis Centre in Boston for the 2 Mile in the prestigious Boston Indoor Championships. There was a top class field on view including Tariku Bekele, younger brother of Kenenisa, another Ethiopian Marcos Geneti and World 5000M championship bronze medallist Craig Mottram.

From the starters gun pacemaker Rono bolted into the lead taking the field around the first 200M lap in under 29 seconds, he continued this pace leaving the rest of the field someway adrift, he was soon some sixty metres ahead of the field. The pacemaker when through the mile in4:04 with the pack some way back, with four laps to go the race was being led by Geneti and Alistair Cragg, Cragg held back saying afterwards “I wanted to wait until the last lap”, with two laps to go Cragg held the lead however at the bell Bekele hit the front with Mottram and another Ethiopian Sileshi Sihine surging forward to take the lead with Mottram on his shoulder. On the final bend Mottram took the lead to win in a time of 8:24.54 with Sihine holding 2nd in 8:27.03 and Cragg 3rd in 8:27.39, a personal best.
