Cross Country and Varsities weekend round up

It was a quiet enough weekend on the country, being the week before Nationals. A few Harriers were in action including on Sunday afternoon, the 19th, Emer Treacy placing a very creditable 5th place in the Provincial Cross Country Championships held in Cáceres, Spain. Running for her Spanish Club, Arte Fisico, she competed in the ‘Cross de Velocidad’ over a distance of 400m – yes a 400m XC race!! From the gun, Emer broke fast and was in the leading group on the uphill climb to the 200m mark. At this point there was turnaround into the downhill finish and she finished out the race very strong. She recorded a time of 55 seconds to place 5th, out of a 17 strong field and 3 seconds behind the winner. It was a very determined run and an exciting race to watch for the large group of spectators. (Thanks to Martin Treacy for report).

Also on Saturday at Santry Demesne, the Irish Life BHAA Cross Country over 6k took place. Thomas Sherlock finished in 16th place (22.03) with Michael Cassidy  18th (22.09)  (any others text 0879599888)

Cathal Doyle ran an impressive Mile leg for DCU in the Intervaraities Road Relays in Maynooth recording a time of 4.36, 2nd fastest leg of the day. Adam O`Brien ran 9.58 for his 2 mile leg and Alannah Cooley 12.23, for her 2 mile.
