Frances second in europeans

Dec 10, 2007 [Noel Guiden] Clonliffe`s Frances NicReamoinn ran an excellent race in the women`s U/23 race at the European Cross Country Championships in Torro, Spain yesterday to finish in 20th place. After a couple of years out of action with injury it was great to see her make such an impact on the international scene, Frances was a recent winner in the U/23 race at the Tilbury International and yesterday was Ireland`s second scorer as the team placed 6th.Also making a welcome return to International level was Colm Rooney in the senior men`s race. Colm found himself down the field somewhat placing 48th in a race which featured a very gutsy run by Martin Fagan who lead until the final lap and ultimately finished 7th in a race won by Europe`s best Cross Country athletes Serhiy Lebid of the Ukraine, taking gold for the 7th time. The Irish team were also 7th.

Fionnuala Britton once again excelled, this time in the senior women`s race where like Fagan she placed 7th with the team taking 5th place. Ireland`s Junior women were also 5th, the junior men 7th and U/23 men 6th.
