The August 1958 International Sports, Santry Stadium (now the Morton Stadium):

6th of August and a crowd of 20,000 pack into Santry and witness Herb Elliott (AUS) set a new world mile record of 3.54.5. More history is made as for the first time ever five men in the same race run sub 4 minutes for the mile: Elliott, Merv Lincoln (AUS), Ronnie Delany (IRL), Murray Halbert (NZ) and Albie Thomas (AUS). The following night and the 2 Mile race sees Elliott set the early pace as Albie Thomas sets a new world record 8.32.0.
