The Leinster School`s Track & Field took place in bright sunshine in Morton Stadium today. Two Clonliffe athletes were crowned Leinster Champions: Aaron Cullen who was superb in winning the U/16 mile and a majestic Daniel Lacey in the inter 1500 SC.
Daniel Lacey took his title with a brilliant display of barrier jumping, smooth throughout and with a majestic run was a worthy champion in an excellent 4.38.21.. Jordan Byrne was somewhat disappointed with his run in 7th place. In the U/16 mile Aaron bided his time only hitting the front at the bell and with a blistering final 400 finished well clear recording a time of 4.42.11. The other Clonliffe lads put in strong runs Daniel Stone was unlucky to be run out of an All Ireland finals place loosing out in a photo finish, 5th place, and only a fraction of a second off 3rd place. There was a fighting display also by Ian McElweney placing around 8th.
Also competing today was Holly Roche 4th in the junior 200, Max Kelly was 4th in the minor 1100, Emma McDonnell 6th in the minor 800 and Sarah Bateson 9th in the junior 1500.
Day 2 is Saturday also in Morton.
