Brother Schools Cross Country: Final Instructions

On Wednesday the Brother Schools Cross Country will take place in the picturesque surroundings of Santry Demesne parkland at the rear of the stadium. This event is for the seventh successive year once again generously sponsored by Brother and promises to be a fantastic day`s athletics with a record entry.

Final Instructions:

Date:                 Wednesday, 7th of October 2015 – HAIL, RAIN OR SHINE!!

 

Venue:            Santry Demesne Parkland at rear of Morton Stadium Santry.

 

Time:               Primary Schools 12.30 p.m.

Secondary Schools from 1 p.m.

 

Sponsor:       Brother, Boeing Road, Airways Industrial Estate, Santry, Dublin 17.

 

Entry Fee:    As previously advised payment on the day at check in Cash or cheque made payable to Clonliffe Harriers.

 

Parking:        Morton Stadium Santry.  

                                   

                                    BUSES/COACHES MUST PARK AT THE CLONLIFFE HARRIERS END OF THE STADIUM – GATE NUMBER 3. PLEASE NOTE THAT ON HEALTH AND SAFETY REASONS BUSES MUST COME INTO THE STADIUM AND PASSENGERS ARE NOT TO BE PERMITTED TO ALIGHT FROM THE BUS PARKED OUTSIDE OF THE STADIUM. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM IN THE PAST AND IN PARTICULAR AT THE 2014 EVENT AND YOU MIGHT PLEASE NOTE IN THIS CONNECTION THAT WE AS ORGANISERS HAVE RECEIVED A DIRECTION FROM AN GARDA SIOCHANA IN SANTRY THAT UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES IS THERE TO BE A REOCCURRENCE THIS YEAR. IT IS IMPORTANT, THEREFORE, THAT YOU AS A SCHOOL INSTRUCT THE DRIVER OF YOUR BUS THAT HE MUST COME INTO THE STADIUM IN ORDER TO ALLOW PASSENGERS TO ALIGHT. THIS IS IMPLEMENTED FOR THE SAFETY OF YOUR ATHLETES AND FOR THE SAFETY OF GENERAL ROAD USERS IN SANTRY. REGRETTABLY IF THERE IS A REOCCURRENCE THIS YEAR THERE WILL BE A SANCTION IMPLEMENTED IN THAT THE SCHOOL RESPONSIBLE WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO TAKE PART.

 

Check In:    Primary Schools 11.00 – 12.00 p.m. Secondary Schools 11.30 – 12.30 p.m. in the hall located in the Clonliffe Harriers clubhouse. Attached to this you will find a team sheet. Please photocopy this team sheet, please use one team sheet per event. You must fill in the team sheet, we would request that these team sheets be filled in before you arrive in order to save time. You should hand in all of your team sheets together with your entry fee. We would request that only one person from each school come to the check in area either the teacher or coach in charge of the school. On presentation of your team sheets you will be given an envelope which will contain your school identification number. This number must be stuck to the FRONT of your athletes running vest/t-shirt.

 

PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU MUST CHECK IN AND YOUR ATHLETES MUST WEAR THEIR RACE NUMBER.

 

Individuals:  Individuals may enter, with the permission of their school, and run as individuals if the school is not entering a team. There are no pre entries for individuals. Individuals must arrive at the check in as above. Individual entry fee of €3.00 is charged and upon payment will be given an individual entry identification number which should be fixed to the front of your racing vest/t-shirt.

 

Age Groups: The primary schools races are open to anyone in 5th and 6th classes. Please note that the primary school race are mixed classes in that the boys race is for fifth and sixth classes and the girls race is for fifth and sixth classes. There are separate races for boys and girls but only one race each.

 

Secondary school minor born on or after 1/7/02.

 

Junior born on or after 1/7/01.

 

Intermediate born on or after 1/7/99.

 

Senior born on or after 1/1/97.

Toilet facilities:           Are located under the stand at the Clonliffe side of the stadium. Toilets are also located at the main reception area at the stadium. Access to the main reception area is through the outside doors.   Please note that the indoor section of the stadium is closed.

 

The Track:  THE TRACK MUST NOT BE ENCROACHED UPON BY ANYONE.   THIS IS TO PROTECT THE TRACK WHICH WILL SUFFER SEVERE AND PERMANENT DAMAGE IF SOMEONE WAS WEARING CROSS COUNTRY SPIKES.   THEREFORE, THE TRACK IS CLOSED.   IT IS VITALLY IMPORTANT THAT YOU ADVISE YOUR ATHLETES THAT THEY ARE NOT PERMITTED ON THE TRACK.

 

Entry to Venue:  Via Morton Stadium. Please use the gate at the 100m start line at the phoenix monument.

12.30pm: Primary School Girls 1000m (1 x 1000m lap)

Primary School Boys 1000m (1 x 1000m lap)

 

Secondary School Programme from 1 p.m.

  • Minor Girls 1000m (1 x 1000m lap)
  • Minor Boys 1500m (1 x 1500m lap)
  • Junior Girls 2000m (2 x 1000m laps)
  • Junior Boys 2500m (1000m lap plus 1500m lap)
  • Inter Girls 2500m (1 x 1000m lap plus 1 x 1500m lap)
  • Inter Boys 3000m (2 x 1500m lap)
  • Senior Girls 2500m (1 x 1000m lap plus 1 x 1500m lap)
  • Senior Boys 5000m (500 metre from start at walled garden plus 3 x 1500m laps)

 

Each race will commence immediately upon conclusion of the previous race so please, therefore, ensure that your athletes are warmed up and at the start area well before the completion of the previous race.

School Colours:  If available must be worn. We would also encourage you to bring flags or suchlike to be placed around the course. Supporters are most welcome.

 Awards:  First three individuals in each race – presentation will be made to the individuals immediately after each race.

Team awards: First three in each race.   A team is a minimum of four athletes with a maximum of 20. The team result will be calculated by the addition of the place finishings of the first four athletes from that school and the school with the lowest score will be declared the winner.   In the event of a tie the winner will be decided on the basis of the highest finish of the 4th scoring athlete from the tying schools.   Please note that there is only one team permitted per school per event.   As up to 20 athletes can run, however, please note that there are only eight team medals available per set.

Souvenir T-shirt:    There will be a souvenir T-shirt for all athletes which will be presented at the finish of each race.

Best Schools:   Our sponsor Brother will make arrangements to make a presentation of a piece of Brother office equipment to the best boys primary school, best girls primary school, best boys secondary school and best girls secondary school. In addition the Lar Byrne Memorial Perpetual Trophy will be presented to the best overall secondary school.

Litter:  As we have use of Santry Demesne Parkland thanks to the generosity and co-operation of Fingal County Council we would implore you to appoint an individual/individuals to be responsible for the removal of all litter generated by your athletes. Please bring a sack for litter. Your co-operation in this connection is vital.

Results: A race report together with photographs (by taking part in this race it is assumed that you are consenting to photographs being published – photographs will not identify any individuals) and the team results and top three individual results will appear on www.clonliffeharriersac.com on Thursday the 8th of October.

Health and Safety:      Please obey the instructions of all marshals at the venue. Marshals will be clearly identifiable as they will be wearing high vis vests. Please note that on health and safety grounds all athletes must avail of footwear. No athlete is permitted to race barefoot.

Medical Emergencies:  St. John’s Ambulance will be in attendance.
