Magnificent effort by Greta to place 4th in Rio

Greta Streimikyte did herself, Ireland and Clonliffe proud with a truly magnificent performance in the final of the 1500 (T13) in the Paralympic Games in Rio today. After a fantastic 3rd place in the heats in a new pb, Greta took a huge chunk off that best in placing 4th today in a top class 4.45.06. Greta filled that unlucky 4th place, just out of the medals.

Post race Greta said: “It’s a championships, anything can happen. It was a massive experience. it motivates me to work even harder. Next year I’ll be faster. It’s a brilliant lesson and no medal can buy that. It’s all good.

“My goal was to get a medal for Ireland. Unfortunately that didn’t happen, but hopefully next time it will.”

The Clonliffe HarrierĀ can be immensely proud of her achievements this year. Over the course of the season she has continually recorded pb after pb, taking nearly 10 seconds off over the year, no one can do anymore or give more of themselves than their best, and Greta has done that in spades. Nil desperandum.
