Places in Albie Thomas 3000m at Morton Games

With a little over thirty days to go to the Morton Pre-Games on July 25th the Morton Games have issued an invitation to athletes to take up the offer for places in the Albie Thomas Men’s 3000m. The race is named in honour of Albie Thomas who in 1958 set two world records in Santry Stadium, a world three mile and world two mile record. Last years Albie Thomas 3000 metres was an excellent race which went right to the wire and was won by Michael Mulhare (North Laois) in 8.02.08 from Raheny’s David Rooney (8.02.59) with Brendan O’Neill (DSD, 3rd in 8.03.63).

 It is expected that the 2012 race will be of equal quality. There is prize money available for the first three athletes in the race: 1st €250.00, 2nd €150.00, 3rd €100.00 and in addition a time bonus of €100.00 will be paid to the winner of the race if the race is won in a time of sub eight minutes. Places are also currently available in the men’s junior mile. Any junior man who would like to take part in the race is invited to submit their application viamortongames@hotmail.com. Prize money in the junior men’s mile is 1st €100.00, 2nd €75.00, 3rd €50.00, 4th €25.00.
