Top class stuff at juvenile track and field

May 8, 2010 [Noel Guiden] The Morton Stadium was packed last night with young athletes taking part in round 3 of the Dublin County Board Juvenile League. From a Clonliffe perspective this was one of the biggest ever turn outs by our athletes with huge numbers in all age groups. With the huge Clonliffe contingent being joined by large numbers from amongst others DSD, Tallaght AC and MSB it meant a long night`s athletes with several races required in the younger age groups. The night`s proceedings moved along nicely, although some of the athletes not surprisingly found the delays in thier races taking place a little trying especially as the evening sunshine faded to a fairly chilly night.

As their were so many Clonliffe athletes in action it was always going to be difficult to keep track of who was doing what and in addition there were sprints taking place on both sides of the track along with field events. All simultaneously!

So please bear that in mind as selected highlights that spring to mind include: in the field events Andrea`s dominance once again of his field events with wins in both the boys U/14 Shot and Javelin, Timothac winning the boys U/12 Shot with brother Elliot winning the U/11 Ball Throw and long jump specialist Megan showing that she has other strings to her bow by placing 3rd in the girls U/15 Javelin.

In the sprints: Timothac won his heat in the 80m, likewise Nicoll won her race in the U/12 80m, Megan was 2nd in the U/15 100m and Keelan was 3rd in the boys U/11 80m.

Finally onto the distance races where Liam had an excellent win the in U/16 1200m with John chasing him hard in 3rd. David 3rd in his boys U/10 500m. Great running also from Martain and Keelan in the U/11 600m 2nd and 3rd. Keith 2nd in the U/12 600m, Keith was also 2nd in his 80m, Sean 3rd in U/13 600m. Another super run by Hope in the U/10 500m taking 2nd place in her race, and finally a really smooth run from Evanna 3rd in her U/13 600m.

Apologies to anyone who`s results have been missed, full official results will be posted on www.dublinathletics.com during the week.

Well done to the Dublin County Board`s officials last night and finally a big thank you to our hard working club coaches and to the parents who helped out and supported the athletes.
