The Clonliffe 2 came back to Santry this evening for the first time since 1985 (when the race was held at the rear of Dublin Airport). Tonight`s 122 running of the race saw the race start and finish on the track and take in a loop through Northwood and into Santry Demesne Park, the new course finding favour with the athletes. For the 28th time Eugene Kavanagh was the race sponsor.
The race was particularly well supported by club members who turned out in great numbers making up the bulk of the 100 plus starters. After a lap of the track the field headed by some the Clonliffe up and coming athletes headed onto the road towards Northwood the leaders hitting the mile marker around 4.35/40. It was here that Dunleer man Darragh Greene made the decisive move and heading back into the stadium had a commanding lead over Raheny`s Conor Dooney with Ian Guiden third leading the Clonliffe battle ahead of Conor Healy. At the finish Green won in 9.28, 2nd Dooney 9.41 with Guiden 3rd in 9.52.
