Defending champion Rooney leads Clonliffe in Dublin XC (updated)

The Dublin cross country championship are hosted by Clonliffe Harriers in Santry this Sunday, November 3rd. The men won the Padraig Keane Cup last year led home in 1st place by Colm Rooney and have a very strong team entered that will put up a stout defence on Sunday. It’s also pleasing that their will be a womens team in action for the first time in a few years and two good junior teams.

Sunday will also see the juvenile uneven ages championships with strong Clonliffe teams entered.

Streets of Dublin paved with gold! (Updated with Dublin & Leinster)

The results of the national marathon championships are in! As expected the senior men are once again national championships, Stephen Scullion, the national champion, Gary O’Hanlon and Mark Kenneally. Gold also for the M35 team of Sergiu Ciobanu, Killian Lonergan and Declan Power. On the individual front in addition to Stephen Scullion’s gold, Mark Keannelly M35 gold, Sergiu Ciobanu M35 silver and Gary O’Hanlon M45 gold.

The results of the Dublin Marathon championships are also now in. Senior men: 1st Stephen Scullion. M35: 1st Mark keannelly, 2nd Sergiu Ciobanu. M45: 1st Gary O’Hanlon, 2nd Killian Lonergan. M75: 2nd Frank Behan. Teams men 1st Clonliffe (Scullion, O’Hanlon, Kenneally), 3rd (Sergiu, Lonergan, Power). Women, W40 3rd Rachel Eustace, W35 team 3rd (Rachel Eustace, Mary Ketterer, Emma Harding).

Leinster Championships: men 1st Scullion. M35 1st Kenneally, 2nd Sergiu. M45 1st O’Hanlon, 2nd Lonergan. Team 1st Clonliffe, 3rd Clonliffe (as per Dublin).

No juvenile training Halloween night

While training for juveniles is on tonight, Tuesday please note there will be no juvenile training on Thursday the 31st. Have a Deadly Halloween!

Record breaking run by Stephen Scullion in Dublin (updated)

Stephen Scullion had the run of his life on the streets of Dublin in this morning’s KBC Dublin City Marathon. With a superbly judged race he placed 2nd overall behind El Gouma (MOR), just back after serving a 2 year ban, in 2.12.01 to win the national title. This time was a new Clonliffe Harriers record bettering Jerry Kiernan’s 35 year old record from the LA Olympics in 1984 and was also a new Northern Ireland record. It was a day described by Stephen as “the best day of my life!”.

Unbelievable runs also today by Gary O’Hanlon who until recent weeks was a doubtful starter, a new PB of 2.16.29 and London Olympian Mark Kennelly 2.16.33, Sergiu Ciobanu ran 2.17.17 as Clonliffe retained the national team title.

Killian Lonergan also had a great day running a PB of 2.37.02. A fine run also by pacer Declan Power who recorded 2.38.56 and a 4 minute PB for Shane Caffrey of 2.53.54.

Emma Mitchell runs fine Half Marathon pb

Emma Mitchell ran a 2 minute pb in the Valencia half Marathon of 72.29 this morning. This was a superb showing by the Clonliffe Harrier who has been recording some fine runs on the road this season.

Scullion to lead Clonliffe Marathon charge

Stephen Scullion is a confirmed starter in Sunday’s Dublin City Marathon. Scullion leads a very strong Clonliffe Senior Men’s team which will looks odds on to successfully to defend its team marathon title, but of course in a marathon…..  Also on the senior men’s team are former national champions Sergiu Ciobanu and Gary O’Hanlon, just back after a period of injury and making his return to the marathon 2012 Olympian, Mark Kenneally, and David Flynn who has been in excellent form this season.

Cross Country Affairs

Advance warning of upcoming cross country events: On Sunday November 3rd Clonliffe Harriers will host the Dublin (uneven ages) Juvenile Championships along with the Dublin Junior and Senior Championships.

Help is needed on the day for course building and also course marshalling. It is particularly important that people make themselves available now as many of the people who will be course building will not be in a position to marshal on the day for the simple reason that they will be busy looking after the various athletes whom they coach.  These dedicated people need the assistance of other club members on November 3rd.

Course builders will be needed from 8 a.m. and on course marshals will be needed from approximately 10.30 a.m. If available for either duty please email noel.guiden@behans.ie ASAP.  As usual please do not assume that others will respond.  If you are reading this please put yourself forward now.

Secondly advance notice of the upcoming club Cross Country Championships. These Championships will take place in Santry Demesne Park on Saturday November 9th with the juvenile Cross Country Championships from 11 a.m. and the Senior/Junior from 12 a.m.  The latter Championship being run in conjunction with the Grand Prix Irwin Cup over 6,000m, (more on that in the week leading up to the race).

U16 boys silver: Sean Boyne, Ronan Donohue,  Sam Murray and Cillian Keegan and bronze for the U18 girls team of Sarah Bateson, Abbie Sheehy,  Aoife Hession and Katie Halpin.
