Jenny Johnston reports: Joint 4th place for Clonliffe women’s National Indoor league team. Over 2 rounds, Clonliffe’s emerging talent combined with unwavering experience shone brightly. On final tally, Clonliffe scored 177 points in a tie with St Laurence O’Toole’s and just 5.5 points behind bronze medal place Craughwell AC.
Amassing an incredible 39 indivdual points, Snezana Bechtina demonstrated her versatility with 11 points in the 60mH, 15 points in the pole vault with a height of 1.95 followed by 13 points with a 9.95m leap in the Triple jump.️ In the 200m, Rachael Ogundimu took time away from her studies to place 3rd in her heat for 9 points. Oozing potential, Isla Duncan placed 5th in her heat in the 800m for 6 points. Sarah Bateson bagged another 11 points in the 3000m. Vivien Okafor had a fantatic throw of 5.20m for 14 points in the WFD.
With only the relay to go, bronze medals were in touching distance. The girls gave it their all running an absolute stormer. Snezana Bechtina set the team up, handing over the baton in 1st place in their heat. Showing true grit and determination both Isla Duncan and Sophie Kernan held onto their position and no-one was getting past them! Edel Maguire ran a fantastic final leg and running for time the team gained crucial extra points on St Laurence O’Toole only for Craugwell AC to leap frog both teams into 3rd place with an overall win in the relay!
