Round up: Sergiu 3rd in National 10k, Varsities T & F, plus more

The National 10k Road Championships was held in the Phoenix Park today incorporated into the Great Ireland Run where Sergiu Ciobanu placed 4th and 3rd in the National in 30.20. Sergiu had warmed up by winning the Youghal Emer Casey 5k on Thursday night in 14.54. In the O/45 National 10k Declan Power took gold (33.10) and Pat Davoren bronze (34.42). On the team front with David Mansfield in 16th place (32.17) the team took silver behind Raheny.

The only Clonliffe result to hand from yesterday`s BHAA 4 Mile in St. Annes is Maurice McCrohan 25.29. Also yesterday in England Liam Roarty ran the National 12-Stage Road Relays at Sutton Coldfield clocking 29:30 for the 5.38 mile course.

On Friday and Saturday the IUAA Championships took place at Cork IT, with some very good Clonliffe performances. Busiest of the crew was Luke Mangan in the throws, winning the Weight for distance 9.66, and bronze medals in the shot (13.53) and Discus (36.73). Also medalling was Denis Byrne 2nd in the women`s javelin (36.05). Rolus Olusa was 4th in the javelin (46.85) and ran the fastest 110H of the day (15.81) in the semis and then 16.32 in the final to place 4th. In the sprints Pierce Friel ran 11.97 in his heat, 11.77 in his semi to make the final but was a DNS. Keith Pike ran 11.36 in his heat and 11.34 in his semi but failed to progress. He then ran 23.52 in the 200 heats but DNS the semi. In the 5,000 Adam O`Brien had a fine run to 5th place in 15.34.61 with Eoin Taggart 7th (15.42.63). Eoin McCullough was 9th in the 10,000 (35.10.30) and Emer Treacy was knocked out in the 800 heats (2.34.65).

National 12-Stage Road Relays at Sutton Coldfield clocking 29:30 for the 5.38 mile course. Missed from last weekend`s results was Rory Gunning 2nd in the Javelin in the Spring Throws in Athlone 59.94m. Also missed was Brian Flanagan`s 3000SC first race for McNeese placing 2nd in 9.44.23.
