March 30th: Today Edel Maguire added the W65 400 gold to her collection, and in addition the World record of 66.94. The World Master’s indoor championships have been taking place all week in Alachua Country, North Central Florida. Clonliffe’s Edel Maguire has once again been in brilliant medal winning and record breaking form. Edel was crowned World W65 High Jump champion on Friday winning in a new championship record of 1.34. Edel also won W65 200 silver in a time of 29.86, missing out on gold by a mere 300th of a second having put together brilliant sequence in the 200, winning her heat on Thursday in 32.16, her semifinal that night 30.10 and then saving her fastest to yesterday’s final. In the 400 Edel won her heat in 68.84 , her semi-final comfortably in 72.86 to qualify for today’s final, where gold was taken in record breaking style.
Also competing in Florida was Snezana Bechtina. Snezana in the W40 60 ran 8.21 in her heat to qualify for the final where she placed 7th in a time of 8.19. In the 200 she qualified for the semi-final, having ran 60.59 in the heat and was 5th in the semi (28.71).
