March 30th: There was an outstanding run by Efrem Gidey last night (March 29th) at the Big 10 Meet in San Juan Capistrano, California to take 12th place and a brilliant new Irish record of 27.26.95 (subject to ratification). Efrem’s new Irish record bettered fellow Clonliffe man Alistair Cragg’s 2007 mark by all of 13 seconds. Fittingly Alistair was in attendance at the meet for the passing of the torch. Last night was Efrem’s 3rd Irish record in recent times having previously set a new 10k road mark of 27.43 and half marathon of 60.51.
