On Saturday, March 29th, 2 brave (or should that be foolhardy?) Clonliffe souls, Ann Lyons and Niall Markey took to the Wicklow mountains for the Maurice Mullins 50K (yes 50, and by the way the actual race distance is 50.50k !) If the thoughts of 50K is not daunting enough, being a mountain race the ascent was some 2,140m. The Irish Mountain Runners Associations website describes the race difficulty level as ‘extreme’.
Anne finish 2nd W55 in a time of 7:34.55. Niall completed the course in 7:52.43. Think about it – the guts of 8 hours running in the Wicklow mountains.
Whilst we can’t speak for Niall, Anne was bright and breezy the next morning helping out at the Dublin half marathon and when asked the question ‘aren’t you tired?’ she replied: ‘no, not really!’ Niall by the way yesterday took part in the club fire safety course. Extraordinary resilience and commitment.
