May 11, 2009 [Stephen Byrne] The 118th annual Clonliffe 2 mile road race was run yesterday in magnificent sunshine. 90+ athletes toed the line at the Bottom of the Hill pub in Finglas and made their way downhill for the fast first mile. For the second mile to the finish at the Kavanagh’s “Gravediggers” public house the athletes had to endure the drag up past Glasnevin cemetery.
The first athlete past the line and the first Clonliffe winner since Sergiu Ciobanu won in 2007 was Aidan Bailey. First lady across the line was Azmera Gebrezet from DCH finishing a mere second ahead of Aoife Brady from Sportsworld.
