Alistair 15th in Worlds

Sep 4, 2011 [Noel Guiden] In Daegu, South Korea this morning Clonliffe`s Alistair Cragg finished 15th in the World 5,000m final. Alistair was running nicely at the sharp end of the field in the early laps employing the tactic that served him so well in the heats, where he ran one of his best ever championship races. The was, however, a massive injection of pace with the lap times quickening dramatically to the low 60`s after six laps and Alistair slipped through the pack and out the back door at 3,000. Alistair, however, gritted his teeth and battled on gamely to finish 15th in 13.45.33. While he will be disappointed with today`s result the positives are that he has shown a real return to form this season achieving the World and Olympic qualifying times and has ran well in these championships in Daegu putting the critics well and truely in their place. Well done Alistair. Have a look at www.mammothtrackclub.com for very good post race interview with Alistair: good to see him positive and looking forward to a marathon later in the year.
