Updated: Bernie Byrne takes National Masters Gold in record time

The National Masters Indoor Championships took place in Athlone IT yesterday with the Clonliffe Masters continuing the great run of club performances of recent weeks. There was a great selection of medals taken by the club`s athletes back to Santry. Pride of place goes to Bernie Byrne who took the M50 800 indoor title by a country mile, Bernie clocking an impressive 2.31.88 to win by a staggering 22 seconds and in the process smashing her existing National W50 record.

There was a notable silver sprints treble by Matt Slattery in the M60, 60 in 8.91, 200 in 28.51 and 400 in 63.88.

Philip O`Doherty was another who took more than one medal: M50 1500 silver (4.36.34) and 800 bronze (2.15.98).

Medals were also won by Frances Mansfield W70 shot silver (4.89), Joe Gibbons bronze M55 High Jump, Joe was also 8th in the 60m (10.55), Eugene McCarrick M60 1500 silver (5.26.92), Jimmy Bennett M70 800 silver (3.00.40), Pat Bonass M70 3000 bronze (13.01.87) Ronan Gately M45 60H bronze (11.40) (Ronan was also 12th in the 60 in 8.44 and 9th in the 200 in 27.91). Honourable mentions also for Thomas Moran 4th M35 60m (7.70) and Tom Monks 9th M50 3000 (11.01.40).
