Brian Flanagan wins National U/19 3000sc title

A great performance by Brian Flanagan in the National Juvenile Championships today saw him capture the U/19 3000 steeple chase title. Brian was particularly impressive over the second half of the race, front running needless to say he drove on over the final laps and with his hurdling technique looking smooth opened a gap at the final water jump to win by 10 metres. His time 9.40.28 was a championship best by some distance.

Another medal winning performance came from young Emma McDonnell in the girls U/13 600 with another fine run to take national silver.

Final places were also secured by Ella Brown in the U/14 800, but the final later in the afternoon was a tough affaire as young Ella finished a pretty tired athlete. Craig Giles comfortably qualified for the U/16 800 final and ran very well in the final placing 5th in circa 2.03.7.

Good runs also today in the U/13 600 by Holly Roche, 800s U/14 by Amy Hodson and Rachel Fagan, U/16 Lauren Carr, U/17 Joseph Hession and U/18 Alannah Cooley. Full results should be on www.athleticsireland.ie soon.
