In view of the risk with ice and frost on the paths in Santry Park the cake race 2022 is now a cross country race! Athletes please therefore bring your spikes tomorrow. There is an entry of close to 100 athletes. Entry is now closed, if any club member is not entered but still wishes to run they may of course do so but it is too late now to give those athletes a handicap and therefore any late entries will run off scratch.
Final instructions:
Dressing rooms: In the clubhouse open from 2:30 PM.
Entry to Santry Park: via the side gate at the clubhouse. Please note that the track and everything beyond the fence is off limits and under no circumstances should anyone go beyond the fencing.
Race numbers/Registration: if you have already entered your race number will be with your coach. If you are a late entrant you may register at 2:30 PM at the clubhouse and you will be allocated a number.
Pre-race briefing/run through handicaps: at the monument in Santry Park at 3:30 PM.
Course: on the grass starting from the monument 3 x 1k loops, spikes will be needed.
Race start time: the 1st runners will be sent on their way at 3:40 p.m.
Results recording: at the finish you will be sent into a finishing chute, please keep your place in the chute to allow the officials record your finishing position.
Showers: will be available in the clubhouse, please note that the heating system will not cope with 100 athletes looking for showers. Please make it a ‘splash and dash’! Alternatively if you are living close to Santry maybe you might be best to slip home have a shower and come back.
Hot food: will be served in the club bar 5.30/6 PM. Please do not bring gear bags into the bar.
Prize giving: there will be prizes for the 1st 3 across the line, both men and women and for the fastest man and fastest woman. There will also be spot prizes. Prize-giving will commence at 7 PM.
Athletes of the Year: presentations to our athletes of the year as soon as the prize-giving has been completed along with a number of special presentations.
Christmas jumpers: encouraged but of course optional.
The club captains encourage all of our members to come along and enjoy cake race night, even if you are not competing. Needless to say if you intend having a drink please leave your car at home.
Covid 19: is still of course with us, if you are unwell, even if you only think you have a cold or if a member of your family has been diagnosed with Covid 19 please do not attend.
Officials: please report to the clubhouse at 2:30 PM or if doing on course marshaling the monument at 3.00pm .
