Doran clocks superb PB in club 10,000

Liam Hennessy reports on The Grand Prix Series, Round 13, Pat Bonass Trophy / Club Championship 10,000 Metres track race, kindly sponsored once again by Pat Bonass. The race took place last night at Morton Stadium. The weather was perfect for distance running; 13 degrees, but most importantly the rain abated and conditions were relatively calm, so all in all a good night for fast times. Thirty runners toed the start line. From the off Sean Doran hit the front and was well ahead of the field throughout the race. Sean claimed the Club Championship with a fine run, finishing in a lifetime best time of 31.49, more than two minutes faster than Sean has ever run before. Grand Prixers ready to hit the start button again for Thursday’s Walker Cup

The 2019 Grand Prix Series resumes in Morton Stadium on Thursday night, September 12th, with one of the Clubs most prestigious races, the Walker Cup. Thursday will be the 53rd running of the Walker Cup, donated by the Walker Family back in 1966.  Although the Walker’s association with the club has sadly come to an end, it is fitting that the Walker Cup and the Walker Family and their contribution to Clonliffe are remembered with this prestigious race.  The Walker’s association with the Club goes right back to 1893. The Walker Cup is generously sponsored by Pamela Cooper.

This is round 12 of the 16 race series currently led by Deirdre Fitzsimons, from Gerard Fay and Mick Bermingham. Following on the heals of the Walker Cup comes the Bonass trophy/Club 10,000 championship on September 25th the final track race of the series, then it’s out to Malahide for the Ahern Cup/Club 10 mile on October 12th before returning to Santry for the final two rounds on the country in November the Irwin and Horan Cups.
