Lennon Ford and Ireland take Minsk win

At the European Games in Minsk Clonliffe`s Luke Lennon Ford, along with Andrew Mellon, Sinead Denny and Kelly McGrory won the 4 x 400 mixed relay in a new national record of 3.24.14.


Leo Morgan selected for CSIT Games

Congratulations to Clonliffe sprinter Leo Morgan who has been selected by Athletics Leinster on the team to compete at the CSIT Games in Tortosa, Spain from 2-7 July.

From Silver Lady to Golden Girl

Clonliffe’s Snezana Bechtina is a World Champion! Tonight Friday March 29th in an ultra competitive W35 200 World Indoor final took gold.

In a fantastic championships in Torun, Poland on Tuesday the 26th Snezana added yet another international medal to her ever growing collection winning World  Masters Indoor W35 400 silver in a most impressive 58.14 having earlier in the week won her semi in 59.95.

Then on Thursday, Snezana lined up for the 200 heats where she blasted to an sb of 25.62 to win. Indeed this was the fastest time recorded over the 5 heats. Today Friday the 29th and Snezana continues to fly the flag finishing 1st in her semi final (25.71) and then in tonight’s final struck gold.

In a fantastic race with a lap of 25.68 Snezana Bechtina became a Clonliffe world champion beating home favourite Aneta Grot. A truly amazing gold and silver achievement.

Clonliffe host SIAB Schools Cross Country International

Clonliffe will on Saturday the 23rd of March host the SIAB Schools International Cross Country at Santry Demesne. This prestigious event features schools international athletes from the “home” countries in the junior and intermediate categories, both boys and girls. In addition there is a mixed 4 x 1500 relay to complete proceedings.

The first race will be at 12 noon with the final race at 2 p.m.

As always we require the help of our members to assist with the hosting of the event. Course builders will be required from 8 a.m. and then at 11 a.m. if people are in a position to assist with marshalling of the event were available to attend a briefing in the clubhouse and then to be in position at 11.30 p.m.  Once the event is concluded if all could assist with the course breakdown and with that in mind all should be finished by 3.30 p.m. at the latest.

In order to plan for the event it is most important that we know who is available and at what times and perhaps you would text 087 9599 888 with your name and time available so that the final plan can be put in place.

As always the club appeals to you to reply early so that all planning can be done well in advance of the event.

Rice will line up for Ireland!

Clonliffe`s Stephen Rice that is! The National senior javelin champion and U/23 record holder has been selected on the Irish team for the European Throwing Cup which takes place in Samorin, Slovokia  on the 9th – 10th March.

Sergiu and Scullion get World Half call up

Clonliffe marathon men Sergiu Ciobanu and Stephen Scullion have been named on the Irish team for the World Half Marathon Championships. The race takes place on March 24th in Valencia, Spain. The rest of the Irish team is Kevin Dooney (Raheny) Kevin Seaward (St. Malachy`s) and Paul Pollock (Annadale).

Rolus makes a good Irish debut at Euro Combined Events

Young Clonliffe Harrier Rolus Olusa made his International debut this weekend at the European Combined Events Team Championships 2nd League, in Monzon, Spain. Rolus after the two days of competition placed 19th on 5,885 points.

Rolus gets International call up

Rolus Olusa has been named in the Irish team for the European Combined Events Cup which takes place in Monzon, Spain on July 1st and 2nd.

Club Javelin record goes in Riga

Stephen Rice set a new club javelin record at the CSIT Games in Riga, Latvia yesterday of 65.48, bettering Rory Gunning`s record by over two meters. Stephen won the competition for the Irish team. Also competing for Ireland was Keith Marks in the long jump. Keith after an impressive display of consistent jumping (6.78, 7.22, 7.23, 7.41 and 7.39) finished 2nd with a longest jump of 7.41m.

Round up: Celtic Cross Country, Aaron wins in the States, BHAA

A busy weekend for Clonliffe also included three of the club`s athletes winning International honours. Today`s Celtic Cross Country in Cardiff featured great runs by three of our up and coming young athlete. In the junior race in the Irish colours both Sean O`Leary and Adam O`Brien put in impressive runs finishing 13th and 14th as the Irish juniors took team first. Eoin Taggart was also in green in the U/23 race placing 29th.

In the USA Aaron Hanlon had a fine indoor 3000 win for Providence at the University of Rhode Island Invitational in a time of 8.32.98.

Yesterday`s EIR BHAA Cross Country 5 Mile in Cherryfield Park, Dublin saw Sean Doran place 6th and Conor Keane 11th. Full results
