Several of the clubs athletes travelled north today for the Belfast Milers Meet. There were outstanding performances with many PB’s clocked by the black ‘n’ amber.. First in action was Marcus Lawler in the 200 winning in a new club record of 20.99 and most importantly adding to his points tally towards Tokyo.
A number of the women’s middle distance squad had their first race since last summer’s club championship races. Laura Tuite ran a massive 12 second of 4.44.98 . in the 1500 B race. In the 800 C race all three Clonliffe athletes excelled Jenny Johnson smashed her pb by 5 secondd going sub 2.20 for the first time a most impressive 2.19.57. For 2nd place. Alannah Cooley was just off her pb clocking 2.21.52 .and to complete matters U/18 Naoise Cullen ran 2.35.66 and gained invaluable experience.
Of the middle distance men Jonny Whan featured in a stacked 1500 A finishing in 3.49..02 having given it a real go but slightly running out of legs over the final 100. Mark McDonald and Richie Owens enjoyed an inter club battle in the 1500 B where Richie with 3.56.09 topped Mark’s 3.59.00. Young Niall Carbery ran a superb race to win the 1500 D running a hugh 18 PB of 4.05.05.. In the 5000 Eoin Taggart with a 15.37.27had one of those days but will have better days ahead. A shout out also to ace pacer Emma Mitchell and to Stephen Scullion who is preparing well for the small matter of an Olympic Marathon.
