Stephen Bateson Reports: Day 1 of the Leinster Track & Field Championship in the SETU South Sports Campus in Carlow saw a number of Clonliffe Athletes take the hour long trip. The Championship was for Junior, Senior and Master’s Athletes.
First up on the track was the men’s 1500m and a decision was made to mix the Junior and Senior
athletes into and A and B race. In the A race Mark McDonald finished in 4:07;76 and 5th in the senior championship, while Darren O’Dwyer finished in 4:16: and took Junior silver. In the B race Cathal McHale finished 2 nd in the race and 7th overall in a time of 4:14:41, while Georges Legentil finished 11th overall Senior in a time of 4:22:90 and James Murphy finished 13th in a time of 4:31:06.
In the field events, the ever-present Edel Maguire was 1 st W60 in the Long Jump with a jump of
4:34m. Back on the track Edel Maguire1st W60 in the 400 m in a time of 1:09:15. Leah Bergin claimed Silver
in the 400m in a time of 57:04 just outside her pb. Snezhana Bechtina claimed W40 gold in a time of
60.65. Gold also in the M70 400 for Matt Slattery (69.07) In the Pole Vault, David Donegan cleared 4:00m to finish 1st Master and 3rd overall. In the Master Men’s Javelin Joe Gibbons captured silver with a throw of 15:69 in the M60.
