Gladys reports: A group of Clonliffe athletes made the trip across the M50 for the last round of the juvenile league in sunny tallaght athletics track..For some of these this was there first taste of competition and indeed their first attempt at some new technical events that they have been practicing.
The U10 were first up Bethany and Ellie competing very well in turbo javelin and 200m.Both girls gave it their all and were delighted with their performance.Their coach Yvonne, very proud of her young charges.Fast up behind them the u11 girls the twins Ava and Lucy Fagan who have competed in all rounds so far gave LJ and 200m a try ..Cadla and Aoibheann also competed very well in these same events.Our sole competitor in U12 GIRLS was local girl Nessa Byrne who improves with every race and tried the fast and furious 200m again leaving nothing on the track.Our chatty U13 girls who consisted of Eleanor, Savannah, Darragh , Sophie and Maddie again displayed great performances in the long jump and sprints.
U14 girls are a new team of javelin throwers who are working hard with coach kieran and they very competed well today .These include Amy , Mia ,Antoinette, and Sadbh .U14- Martha Higgins had the extra challenge of running under 15 today but gave it her all nonetheless in the 200m.
Finally to the U15 girls who were first up to show their turn of speed. Leigh Mcdermot, zoe mulligan, Isobel Hickey, Sophie Rattigan and Sienna kelly are all improving with every race and thanks to their coach Anne getting used to competition.
Now for the boys who did not disappoint and were full of energy and fun today.
U11These also competed in sprints and long jump..Isaac and Rhys both medalled with Max Bamford and Brody who are very new members getting the taste of competition in these events.
U12 boys .The experienced Andrew Lowe, Seamus Phelan and Adam Phelan competed very well in sprints and long jumps, clearly growing in confidence and enjoying the competition.
U13Aidan McDermoot who was our sole competitor ran a tough 200m but holding his own none the less.
Another reliable competitor today was Eoghan Thompson who did the long jump and high jump..eoghan is a speedy park run competitor who regularly gets under 21min!!
U14 -our sole representative was Fionn who gave a very commendable performance in this very technical event. Fionn is part of coach Kieran’s javelin troupe .And finally last but not least one of our older and dependable athletes Conor Phelan had a fine throw in the shot putt and produced a PB..can’t ask for much more than that..
Well-done to all athletes who turned up today.Also thanks to coaches parents and relatives who gave their support today and previous days..
