The Irish Universities Cross Country Championships took place in conjunction with the Aviva All Ireland Schools on Saturday afternoon at Cork IT. There were four Clonliffe athletes in action.
In the women`s 5,000m Becky Woods ran a good race to finish in 2nd place, Becky was always in the lead two and looked like it was her day until the final lap. Becky won team gold once again in retaining the title for TCD. Laura Brennan (TCD) also ran well in placing 29th.
In the men`s 8,000m Ian Guiden showed no ill effects from last Sunday`s Nationals with a fine run for DCU, in his first outing for the University, to place 10th and win team gold as DUC held off UCD and Athlone IT in an intriguing team battle. Eoin McCullough was 53rd in the TCD colours.
