Clonliffe athletes run out of luck at Athlone indoor nationals (update)

The Clonliffe athletes competing in the national juvenile indoor track and field championships in Athlone over the weekend, found themselves out of luck in the hunt for medals. On Saturday the 6th Christopher Lynch U/19 400 qualified for the final winning his heat in 51.35, he ran an excellent race and the final finishing 2nd but unfortunately an infringement at the ‘break’ resulted in a DQ. Ava Usanova in the U/18 60 also qualify for the final, winning her heat in 7.95 and in the final placed 6th having run 7.92. Rebecca Walsh was 4th in her 400 heat (62.46). In the U/14 high jump Eoghan Thompson finished 7th (1.35m). Caoimhe de Belo was 13th in the U/18 long jump with a best of 4.05m. The middle distance boys battled away gamely in the U/18 1500 Matei Ursachi was 3rd in his heat 4.07.72 and ended up 7th overall, Jack Quinn ran 4.35.85.

Sunday the 7th: Braxton O’Shea was 6th in the U/14 800 heats in 2.26.97. In the U/18 200 heats, Ava Usanova was 3rd (26.40) with Emily Jachna 4th (26.84).
