Clonliffe athletes win Longford full and half marathons

Aug 31, 2009 [Noel Guiden] A very successful trip was undertaken by a number of Clonliffe athletes to the midlands over the weekend for the Longford Half and full Marathons which took place yesterday August 30th. Once again Sergiu Ciobanu did the business winning the marathon in a time of 2:25.26 successfully defending his title from last year. This was Sergiu`s third run over the classic distance in Longford: 3rd in 2006 and back to back wins in 08 and 09. Making it a memorable Clonliffe double was Josphat Boit who won the half marathon in 1:14.02. Remarkably Josphat was also the 2008 half marathon winner in Longford, a pretty unique achievement: club mates with back to back full and half marathon wins at the same event.

Super runs also in the half from Ernie Ramsey 1:20.27 for an excellent 12th place and Mark Bermingham and Anthony Malone both recording 1:25.06 in 25th and 26th. The Dublin marathon preparations are looking pretty good with 7 weeks or so to go lads.

Sorry if I`ve missed out on any other Clonliffe athletes, full results on www.longfordmarathon.com
