Clonliffe celebrate International Women’s Day at Poppintree ParkRun

Ciara Peelo reports: What a morning it was celebrating ‘Women in Sport Week’ as well as ‘International Women’s day”. On what turned out to be a beautiful morning with sunshine, blue skies and no more than a light breeze, well over 30 Clonliffe Harriers took to the line in their club colours. The weather was certainly a contrast to last year! From our younger Harriers, some of whom were donning beautiful Clonliffe ribbons in their hair, others with their Doyler inspired t-shirts, right through to our more mature Masters athletes there was a great sense of camaraderie amongst the crew.

First around the track was Mick Mahon (although he does not appear on the results!). The first lady home was Marie Howard, who returned from Cork for the special occasion. She was followed closely by our Captain Jenny Johnston flying home in 19:54, in the middle of a longer run. Mya O’Reilly led the female junior athletes home, closely followed by Ava Fagan, both running comfortably under 21 minutes.

Many thanks to all the members who turned up to celebrate the fantastic women of our club. It was wonderful to have our Club President Mick Kearney come along to give us all a cheer.

Best of luck to all our members running in Bohermeen tomorrow, many of whom were jogging around Poppintree this morning as a leg loosener.
