Clonliffe duo win bronze with DCU

The Universities road relay championships took place in the beautiful surroundings of Maynooth University, County Kildare today. It was a really picturesque setting with the deep red autumnal colours set off by a bright autumn day and unseasonably mild conditions. The course is however testing with several sharp bends. The men’s race was held over 1, 2, 3, 2, 1 mile legs although each of the mile loops was undoubtedly slightly longer than the advertised mile! Clonliffe’s Sean O’Leary, who recorded a time, of 14.45 for his ‘three-mile’ (the lap is longer than the mile), the 7th fastest on this leg and Ben Guiden, with a time of 9.26 for his ‘2 mile’, the 2nd fastest 4th leg, took bronze for the DCU B team, behind winners UCD and DCU A. Stephen Cashin (Trinity) ran a time of circuit 10.10 for his 2 mile leg, 10th fastest on this 2nd leg. In the women’s relay Sarah Bateson impressed in the final 2 mile leg for hosts Maynooth taking circa seven places to clock 12.11 for her “2 Mile”, the 7th fastest on this leg.
