It was a day for tough athletes in Avondale Park, Rathdrum, County Wicklow for today’s National Intermediate and Masters Cross Country, the final event of the club cross country season. With Avondale’s reputation as a hard course today supplemented by the incoming Storm Ciara it wasn’t day for the faint hearted!
Eoin Taggart continued his superb form with an excellent run today leading his team by example as he finished a seriously impressive 4th place. Next in was another men in great form, Stephen Cashin, a first year senior, in 11th. Sean Doran was the 3rd scorer in 29th with another athlete who has just left the junior ranks Ryan Sheridan in a battling 47th completing the scoring four, and Jordan Byrne 73rd. The team took well earned bronze behind Donore 1st and Leevale 2nd. This was a very encouraging performance by the team with three of the five having been on the Clonliffe junior team only a matter of months ago.
The Master women all put in solid runs, with Ailish Malone first of the team in a quality 18th position. The scoring positions: Ailish 18th, Emma Harding 82nd, Elaine McLoughlin 85th and Emma Cooper 88th with the team placing 9th. The other finishers were 105th Aideen O’Connor, 118th Laura Kernan, 129th Orla Deighnan, 165th Yvonne McDonagh.
