Clonliffe junior men take Dublin Cross title

The Dublin Cross Country took place in Summer day`s like conditions in Tymon Park this afternoon with temperatures hitting the 18s. With a breeze free afternoon and a very testing 2,000m loop it made for a tough day`s cross country for the athletes.

The Junior men were in great form and took the Dublin title with very solid foundation work from Cathal Doyle 2nd and Adam O`Brien 3rd. The other squad members Sean Carrig 8th, Eoin Keating 11th, Josh Stubbs 17th, Thomas Ward 18th, Alex Gibbons 19th and Greg Hosseny 20th all put in strong shifts to put down a marker with the Nationals only three weeks away.

With Hope Saunders on International duty it meant that the club had only two athletes in the junior women`s race where Alannah Cooley turned the table on Laura Tuite to win the Clonliffe inter club battle, in 8th and 9th places.

The senior women`s team was somewhat weakened today and the cause wasn`t helped when Becky Woods was forced to pull up around half way. The team was lead home by Emer O`Brien in 8th with solid runs also from Bernadette Kiernan (25th), Louise Carraher (27th), Clodagh Morriarty (32nd) and Aisling Andrews (34th). The team finished the day in 5th.

Finally the senior men where again the team was weakened as a result of pull outs through injury and illness. Sergiu Ciobanu was first man home after a good run in 4th place, followed in by Jayme Rossister 8th, Brian MacMahon 16th, Tom Sherlock 29th, Michael Cassidy 42nd and Sean Doran 52nd. The team placed 4th.
