Clonliffe Juvenile athletes brave the elements in Tallaght

A small but select contingent of young Harriers headed to Tallaght track yesterday for the 2nd round of the track and field league. It was a day for the brave as the black and amber faced driving rain, strong wind and a long day. Such is the success of the League that the numbers competing are ever increasing which leads to inevitable delays and coupled with necessary breaks as the monsoon unleashed made for a four hour plus stay in Tallaght.

Star of the day was arguably Cian Bolger in the U/14s. Cian began his day by placing 2nd in his 200m heat and then several hours later running the perfect race over 1200m. Cian, a renowned front runner, yesterday employed the tactic of sitting and waiting before kicking off the final bend past the leader to record a thrilling win.

Another athlete to feature again was young Jonathan Fitzsimons taking another great win with a very strong run over the last 100 in the U/10 500. A 1st place also for Luchino  Ramano in the U/14 boys Javelin and 4th in long jump.

Other stirring performance on the day included a battling 2nd place from Cian Forrester in the U/13 600, Cian, despite carrying an injury pushed himself to the limit and was only piped for the win at the post, with Mark 3rd.

Rebecca Fitzsimons in the U/14 200 battled through the heats, finishing 2nd and in the final was a commendable 4th. 4th also for Aoife Hession, who wasn`t feeling well at all. Abbey Sheehy also ran very well to finish 3rd in the U/13 600 and 3rd place also for Harry Pierce in the U/14 1200, Harry being one of the unlucky athletes who had to race through the monsoon.

So well done to all the athletes and coaches who took in Tallaght yesterday….none but the brave!
