Round 2 of the Juvenile Spring Series took place this morning (Sunday 10th) at Naomh Mearnog GAA grounds, Portmarnock. A huge thank you to our hosts Portmarnock AC for putting on a superb event. The track was a 250m oval on the all weather astro making for a welcome change, the races all ran perfectly on time and the 60 minute program was exactly that 60 minutes. Post event Portmarnock again excelled with teas, coffee, sandwiches, biscuits and cake, really putting it up to Clonliffe for the final round in Santry in two weeks time!
It was a bracing morning, a cold bitting wind with little sign of Spring in the air. The early races for the U/8s did not have any Clonliffe interest but it was a great sight to see so many young athletes, mainly in the yellow vest of our hosts, having fun with the sport. First win of the day came from Sally Simola in the U/10s and then Cillian Forrester followed with a win in the boys U/12 race. Then in the U/14 boys, running 1200m where young Joey Hutchinson was a very classy winner running magistically at the front and leading the field on a merry dance. The U/16 and 18s ran together over 1500m where Hope Saunders took over the lead after two laps to record a comfortable win followed by Stephanie McCaul 3rd, showing a welcome return to form and a “hockied out” Sally Aherne 4th. First of the U/16 girls was Sophie Higgins. The U16 and 18 boys were also mixed. There was a great Clonliffe battle in this race from two of the club`s newer members, Josh Stubbs(U/18) was running his first ever race and really looked impressive leading for the first few laps and then battling way for 2nd place behing a strong looking Darragh O`Boyle (U/16) who took the win to maintain his 100% record, 2 out of 2, with a fine run by Keving Loftus (U/16) in 3rd place.
Round 3, the final round, will be hosted by Clonliffe in the Morton Stadium, on Sunday March 24th with an 11.00am start, the age groups will be uneven ages for this one. Full details during the week of the event.

Saturday (9th)saw the latest BHAA cross country race, The NUI/AIB Maynooth race in Maynooth College. A small band of the club`s athletes took part lead home by Chris Muldoon 4th in 21.52. Other Clonliffe 7th Tom Sherlock 22.22, 9th Conor Keane 22.29. Once again can I appeal to any of our club members, if you race please text me your name, place, time and the race you ran. Otherwise it`s next to impossible to keep this web site up to date. If you run a BHAA race please remember that unless the web master knows where you work (unlikely) or knows the name of every club member (also unlikely) he has some difficulty in spotting your results. Text Noel 0879599888. If you tell us we`ll tell the world wide web!
Finally congratulations to Dave Flynn and Arkansas Razorbacks on their NCAA Indoor Championship over the weekend.
