Clonliffe juveniles in tip top form at Dublin Cross Country

There were more top drawer performances from the young black and amber clad athletes at today`s Dublin Juvenile Cross Country (even ages) championships in st. Anne`s Park, Raheny. With the team performance of the day coming from the u/16 boys who totally dominated their race with 6 in the top 12, including a first Dublin cross country title for Sean Carrigg.

The first team medals of the day were delivered by the u/10 boys with top runs from Jonathan Fitzsimons (9th), Michael Coleman 11th, James McDonnell 13th, and top runs also from Dylan Richards, Gavin Browne and Mark enough to take Dublin silver. The girls U/12 team also put in strong runs and with great packing from the girls with a scoring four of  Abbey Sheehy, Ella Browne, Aoife Hession, and Ella Bergin, taking team bronze with great runs also from amongst others Amy Hodson and Yasmin Eustace. The boys U/12 were missing a couple of athletes so didn`t have a team however there were really solid runs today by Cillian Forrester in 8th place and Luciano and Luke Browne.

Bronze also for the U/14 boys lead home by Daniel Craig with a battling 10th place finish, well backed up by Joey Hutchins, David Tuite, Stephen Cashin, Jack Horan, Sean Edwards and Harry Pirece.

In the U/16 girls 4,000m race the sole Clonliffe athlete Alanah Cooley put in the race of her life to qualify for the Dublin County team with an excellent 9th place finish.

The boys were dominant in the U/16 race from the off with Adam O`Brien and Sean Carrigg at one and two and then Joseph Hession, Dave O`Hanlon and Shane Merrigan tightly packed from 5th to 8th. At the end Sean Carrigg in one of his best races to date took the win from Adam 2nd, followed in by Joseph, the strong finishing Shane Merrigan, Dave O`Hanlon, Alex Gibbons showing a great return to form, Kevin McKenna, Greg Hosseny, Kevin Loftus. A great team performance to take a well deserved team win.

The U/18 championship is run in conjunction with the junior championship and again there was a team medal winning performance as the boys squad of Cathal Doyle, Josh Stubbs, Brian Flanagan, Ross Kearney, Niall Norman, Mario Bowden and Paul Courtney finished 2nd. There wasn`t a full team in the girls U/18, however, Hope Saunders took individual bronze.

Next up for the gang is the Nationals at home in Santry on November 17th.
