Clonliffe Harriers AC members were honoured at this afternoon’s Athletics Ireland’s awards. Cathal Doyle, who had also been nominated in the middle distance athlete of the year category, was awarded the Inspirational Performance Award for his inspiring performance in winning July 12’s Morton mile at Morton Games. Cathal’s award was collected by his mother Olive.
Peter McDermott was recognised for his 40 odd years coaching, both at club level and internationally with Irish cross country teams, by being awarded the Athletics Ireland Services to Coaching Award for 2024. Peter has been the Clonliffe Harriers men’s senior middle/long distance coach for a long number of years coaching Clonliffe teams to dozens of national titles and of course coaching individual Clonliffe athletes to the highest level, he is not only one of the most knowledgeable and hard-working coaches in the country but he does all this work in his usual understated way. Clonliffe Harriers are justifiably proud to see Peter honoured by our governing body.
Also nominated today were Efrem Gidey in the Endurance Athlete of the Year category ,Edel Maguire in Master Athlete of the year and as part of the Team of the Year, the Ireland U/20 men’s 4 x 400, Davey Davitt.
