Clonliffe men and women win in Duleek plus roads round up

It proved to be a well worthwhile and enjoyable trip to Co Meath for this afternoon’s Duleek 5k Road race. There was a good turnout of Clonliffe athletes making the trip with both the men and women’s teams winning. The men’s team was led home in 5th place by the ever improving Mahad Mohamed who ran a new PB of 16.06, this was despite taking a wrong turn whilst in 2nd place. Next in was another of the youngsters in 6th place Cillian Keegan also running a PB of 16.18 and the 3rd scorer on the team was Sean McGarrity, who also PB’d with 17.23 in 14th position.

Men 1st team: Sean, Mahad, Cillian, Dermo
Women 1st team: Niamh B, Niamh W, Clodagh, Laura, Hannah, Aisling.

Laura Tuite ran an excellent race to take her maiden road race win in 21st overall in a time of 18.00. Clodagh Galvin was 3rd woman, 33rd overall, in a PB of 18.52 and then another PB, Hannah Browne, going sub 20 for the first time, an impressive 19.04. . These three made up the scorers that took the team plaudits.

Of the rest of the Clonliffe athletes competing Garrett Loy was 38th in 18.59, 44th Dermot Buckley 19.29, Aisling Killelea also ran a PB, also going sub 20 for the first time 19.44. Joyce O’Hare ran 20.25, Maura Matthews 20.42, there was then a PB of 22.20 for Niamh Whyte, Emma Cooper 22.28 and then Niamh Belton 22.30, also a PB and Emer Brennan 23.49.

Also today Ciara Peelo was 93rd in the Adare 10k, Co Limerick in 41.27. Making it further country wide was Ger Clerkin 2nd in the Blackwater 10k, Co. Welford in 36.18.
