Clonliffe men head to Portugal for Euro Clubs

On Friday the Clonliffe Harriers Men’s Track and Field team heads to Europe for the European Clubs Champions Track and Field Championship Group B. The Championships take place on Saturday in Leiria, Portugal which was the same venue where the Junior Men’s Track and Field team competed back in 2012.

There is a very strong men’s team which will challenge for honours in most events, the goal is promotion to Group A.   The team will face clubs from across Europe including Great Britain, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Greece, Slovenia and Slovakia.

The team includes seasoned campaigners and national champions including Brian Gregan who goes in the 400, Ian Rogers in the pole vault and Rory Gunning in the javelin. Also competing will be seasoned campaigners including David Flynn,  Gary Murray, who was earlier this week named in the Irish team for the European Championship half marathon which takes place in Amsterdam in July, international athlete Timmy Crowe and Aaron Hanlon who has just returned to Ireland for the summer from college in Providence in the United States. Also competing will be top class athletes Chris Sibanda and Keith Pike.

The Clonliffe team for Saturday`s Championships in the sprint is Keith Pike, Chris Sibanda, Brian Gregan, the 4 x 100 squad from Chris Sibanda, Pierce Friel, Stuart Roche, Keith Pike and Anthony Fernandez Garcia. Over the hurdles Anthony Fernandez Garcia is named in the 110 with Timmy Crowe in the 400 hurdles.

The middle distance athletes competing include Gary Murray, Eoin Pierce, David Flynn,Aaron Hanlon, Adam O`Brien and Mark McDonald. In the field events Clonliffe will be represented by Ian Rogers, Andrew Heney, Keith Marks, Simon Galligan, Marcin klinskow, Luke Mangan and Rory Gunning.  Also travelling as part of the squad and in the squad for the 4 x 400 is Josh Stubbs.
