Clonliffe Success at Dublin Novice CC Championships

Newbridge House was the setting for the Dublin Novice Championship held on Saturday 11th in lovely conditions for Cross-Country running. Clonliffe newcomer Chrissy Gormley showed great turn of speed to come through the field and finish in first place in the Dublin Ladies Novice Championship with 10:55, 8 seconds clear of second place Marian Irwin of Sportsworld (11:03) and UCD’s Emer O’Brien(11:05).

Our Ladies Team went on to claim Bronze Medal position (1, 17, 33, 36 – 87pts.) with Bronagh O’Brien also on her first outing in 17th, S. Hartnett in 33rd and Judith Keenan in 36th. First place went to Donore Harriers (4, 12, 13, 14 – 43pts.) with Raheny Shamrocks in second (8, 21, 22, 23 – 74pts.).

In the Mens Novice race, Clonliffe came in 6th overall (14, 16, 24, 33 – 87pts.) with Micheál McDiarmada first home in 20:25, David Ward (20:25), David Dunwoody (21:53), Martin Tully (22:07), Noel Masterson (22:14), Chris Shiels (23:08) and returning to Cross-Country after some years, Noel Guiden on 23:43.

First team home was Rathfarnham WSAF AC (3, 6, 8, 13 – 30pts.), UCD was second (2, 11, 17, 22 – 52pts.) and third was Dundrum South Dublin with (1, 7, 10, 35 – 53pts.).
