Clonliffe teams off to flying start in League (updated)

The men’s team got off to a flying start in round one of the national Indoor League at the National Indoor Arena in Abbotstown today. Although the official points tally for today is not as yet available it is not unreasonable to assume that the men have topped the standings as at the end of round 1 there were winning scores in 3 events and second places in 2 ,of the 6 events Thus the clubs defence of the National League indoor title is off to the best possible start.

Winning scores were contributed by Leo Morgan in the 60m in a time of 7.03 likewise Eamonn Fahey won the long jump competition with 6.89m and Rolus Olusa won the shot with 11.01 m. Rolus was also second in the 60H in 8.50. Second place also in the pole vault for Dave Donegan in with 3.70m and finally Mark McDonald was 5th in the 800 2.02.49.

The women’s team also got off to a very solid start. Snezana Bechtina was a major contributor to the team’s final placing of 5th at the end of round 1 with 4th in the long jump in 4.84 m, 6th in the pv  2.10 m and 6th in the 60H  11.30. Rebecca Fitzsmons was 5th in the 60m 8.22, Orna McGinley was 7th in the 800 with 2.2 7.03 and Leah Bergen 8th in the shot 5.40 m.

In the guest races Sarah Batson placed 9th in the 1500 in an indoor PB of 5.0 3.33 and Keith Pike ran 7.19 in the 60m.

Round 2  of The League take place in two weeks time on  January 26th so athletes please contact your club captain to declare your interest.
