International women’s day has certainly brought out the best in Clonliffe Harriers women athletes. Today in Athlone at the National Masters indoor Championships the club’s women athletes continued the feelgood factor with glittering medal winning performances. The Clonliffe master men into the bargain also got in on the act with a fine horde of medals coming back to Santry.
Being the day that then it, it’s ladies first. Edel Maguire took double gold in the sprints – M65 60 in 8.99 and 200 in 29.97. Snezana Bechtina won W40 60 gold in a fine 8.07 and then took silver in the 200 (26.38). Silver also for Vivian Okafor in the W40 shot with a best of 8.48m. (Vivian was also listed in WFD, however, result not yet showing).
Andrej Dmitrenko won his 1st national gold medal for Clonliffe in the M55 pole vault (3.40m). It was gold also for Niall Allen M50 shot in a new PB of 12.82 and then gold again for Niall in the WFD (8.82) .
On the track in the 800s George Maybury won M70 gold (3.09.97), Diarmuid Doyle M65 silver (2.48.48) and Silver also for David Dunwoody M55 (2.19.03). Niall Sherlock took double bronze M40 3000 (9.56.11) and M65 1500 (4.25.23). Diarmuid Doyle also collected 1500 bronze. Bronze also for Michael Omakobia M40 400 (57.44), earlier Michael has finished 8th in the 60 (8.08).
