The Dublin Cross-Country Championships made a welcome return to Santry Demesne on Sunday, November 14th on what was a fine sunny afternoon and perfect conditions for racing. Clonliffe’s Senior and Junior teams did us proud with individual medals as well as Senior Mens Team gold, Junior Mens Team Bronze and Junior Womens Team Bronze.
In an exciting race, our Senior Mens Team (Mark Kenelly, Cian McLoughlin, Gary O’Hanlon, Colm Rooney, Nigel Brunton and Ed Coughlin) dominated the 5-lap, 10 kilometer race from the start with the first three places before finally finally getting 1st Mark Kenelly, 2nd Cian McLoughlin and 4th Gary O’Hanlon with DSD’d Peter Mathews taking 3rd. Colm Rooney was 7th with Nigel Brunton 20th and Ed Coughlan 26th, achieving a team score of 60 with Raheny Shamrocks next nearest at 112 and Rathfarnham 122. Our Bronze medal winning Junior Mens team were Michael MacDiarmada 6th, Daniel Kip 9th, Lutfi Dridi 12th and Andrew Kelly making a return to form with 14th. Congratulations also to our Bronze Medal winning Junior Womens team, Christine Kenelly 6th, Nicola Fallon 9th, Aoife Greenan 11th and Denise Walsh 15th. Fair play also to our Senior Womens Team on their 7th place with the team led home by Ladies Captain Mags Greenan in 17th place, Chrissie Gormley 24th, newcomer Erin McVeigh 25th and Caroline Kearney 29th.
