Club 10 Mile championship/Grand Prix Series

Club 10 Mile championship/Grand Prix Series  – Malahide 12 October 2024 On Saturday morning 12 October 2024 the Clonliffe Club 10 Mile championship incorporating the Grand Prix Series was held in Malahide. The weather conditions were cool and dry.

The event attracted a strong field with 28 runners completing the testing course. Many were completing their final preparations for this year’s Dublin marathon. This was the 25th year the 10 mile championship was held in Malahide Continuing to show impressive form Sean Doran led from start to finish completing the 10 mile course in 00:53:14. The first woman home and winner of the Women’s Club Championship was Mary Ketterer with a time of 01:14:11.

It was great to see the winner of the first 10 Mile Club Championship way back in 1964, Ray Heffernan, spectating at this year’s event. The Ahern Cup was presented to Sean Doran, 10 Mile Clonliffe Club Champion for 2024, by both Ray Heffernan and sponsor Maurice Ahern.

Women’s 10 Mile ChampionshipTom Monks was on hand to present the Agatha Monks Memorial Trophy to a delighted Mary Ketterer 10 Mile Clonliffe Club Champion for 2024.

Grand Prix Result: In the Grand Prix event the winner, taking maximum points and running a stormer, was Mick Gleeson. In second place was local favourite Aimee Ahern while in third place was Sean Doran. All three received their race prizes from sponsor Maurice Ahern.

Next Race – Clonliffe 2 Mile: On Sunday 20th October the 133rd running of the Clonliffe 2 Mile  takes place at 10.30am in  Glasnevin. The race finishes at the Gravediggers Pub.  Entries are taken online – full details on the Clonliffe web site.
